Legislator William Spencer was a member of the panel on the News 12/Newsday television special dealing with protecting Long Island’s Water resources. Broadcast on Thursday evening September 26th Legislator Spencer spoke of his efforts to coordinate resources and initiate protection of the aquifer on a bi-county level. In the past year Legislator Spencer has hosted public meetings in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties, working with legislators and experts in the field on this issue. Last month, Legislator Spencer was instrumental in securing another grant to upgrade the Northport Village sewage treatment plant. He secured a total of $4.68 million in grants and more in low interest loans for the improvements to the sewer plant that will significantly reduce the nitrogen discharges into the Northport Harbor. As a result of his efforts, the Huntington Harbor Complex will see marked improvement in water quality in the very near future.
